Austin A99

The Austin A99 Westminster was an Austin Westminster series car produced by the British manufacturer Austin from 1954 until 1968. The Westminster line was produced as the A90, A95, A99, A105 and A110 until the new Austin 3-Litre took its place. The C-series engine was enlarged to 3 liters and fitted with twin SU carburetors.

The Austin Westminster was a large, elegant car that replaced the A70 Hereford. The Westminster's design was essentially a badged version of the Farina versions of the Westminsters which were also produced using the premium Wolseley and Vanden Plas brands.

The Austin A99 took the best features of the previous model and made them better. The C-series engine was enlarged to 3 liters and fitted with twin SU carburetors. The three-speed gearbox received a stronger synchromesh and the front brakes were upgraded to power-assisted discs, a first for an Austin sedan.

In 1961, the Westminster received a longer wheelbase to increase passenger space and give the car a more impressive road presence. The following year, Austin added power steering and air conditioning options. Later in 1964 the A110 Westminster Mk II appeared with a four-speed gearbox, the finishing touch to a surprisingly impressive machine.

In short, the Austin A99 Westminster was a stylish, well-designed car that offered comfort and performance to its owners. With its enlarged C-series engine and improved features, it was an impressive car in its time.
